Protection – Coiled Sculpture from Recycled Bicycle Tires

A snake-like form coils tightly around what it guards, holding it close and holding on hard.

Protection is about the grip that comes with caring for something. It can be a mother shielding her child, an embrace so tight that the care meant to protect starts to do harm. Or it can be the guarding of a treasure that slowly takes over its keeper, until it is no longer clear who possesses whom. The sculpture sits in that tension between shelter and obsession.

• Recycled bicycle inner tubes covered with a layer of bicycle tire

• Wire armature for structure

• Black acrylic finish

• Cherry wood base
